Trebles are three hooks welded into one, commonly used in lures, from crankbaits through trolling lures to diamond jigs. A treble hook is usually attached to the lure via a split ring to give it free play, although some use hook eyes. Trebles can be effective also in certain fly designs, especially those that are made to resemble octopuses or squids.
In the beginning, all one needs in fishing is a hook and a line. But today different fishing conditions require different tackle, and hook styles were invented in reply to fit them. Yet even so, many styles are multifunctional although developed for their own particular purposes. Therefore we shall discuss only the general styles though variations for each exist in the fishing industry.
Fish hooks also come in several types. Knowing a few of the more popular ones and their uses can help you be successful:
Circle hooks and J-hooks are the two most commonly found types of saltwater bait hooks. There is an ongoing debate by saltwater anglers as to whether circle hooks are better than J-hooks and I believe each have their own advantages when fishing in different conditions and scenarios. Saltwater hooks often come pre-sharpened and are designed to corrode over time, causing little harm to those fish that were lucky enough to have won a battle with a heart-broken fisherman.
Many trout fishermen don't pay nearly enough attention to their trout fishing hooks when fishing for the multi colored beauties known as trout. They seem to labor under the delusion that a "fishing hook is a fishing hook", without ever realizing that their hooks are almost as important as any single piece of fishing gear that they use while trout fishing.
The problem is that many types of bait aren't conducive for a single small hook and your bait gets taken by the trout easily. This is where a set of gang hooks come into play. When it comes to trout fishing hooks, gang hooks are a great way to go. This is especially true when trout fishing with live bait such as live worms. These trout fishing hooks are simply a pair of small hooks tied in tandem, which enable a worm to be presented in an outstretched and natural manner.
